I was interviewed by best selling author Scott Harper for Nuclear Winter Entertainment recently, and got to talk a bit about both Dragon Shaman and Selkies' Skins.

I lost track of the days and forgot to make the next episode available.
This last part of Chapter 25 takes us to a place that Kirsty will visit again later on in her adventures and trials, and which also is an important location in "The Book of Seals: Pearls of Sea and Stone" which will be joining this book in the Selkies' Skins books and stories. We also meet with some deities that have their fingers in other bookseries of mine. The question now is...what do they want? The next chapter will be "The Mark." I recently passed out a sample of chapter 31 at a virtual chat via Second Life. Today, I finished chapter 32 (Light Keeper) and am starting on chapter 33. I look forward to being able to post these chapters.
So far the working file is sitting at 102,343 words. According to Smashwords, that's epic novel length. I project that things from this point will move much faster, through her time in the Well – which will prepare her for surviving a sea quest without the aid of the skin she seeks – through the second half of her skinquest in the Sea itself. I do plan a second book for after Kirsty obtains her skin...there is still much in her world that needs doing, and I expect these to tie in somewhat with Dragon Shaman and The Shadow Chronicles after all (despite my initial reluctance...the muse says that this is indeed all part of the same universe schema). The first part of Chapter 25: The Old Ones is now available to read on all three archives. What happens as Kirsty begins to move from one world to another?
We have five more chapters before we move into Section 3, which will take us through the two parts of Kirsty's Skinquest. I hope that when we get into that, the few readers that were disappointed about moving into the school part of Kirsty's life will see why I felt it was so important to experience the "human" part of her life first. Also, last night I found a picture on deviant art that very closely shows the most common way that Kirsty and David would be seeing Herne when they encounter his deity...whom one of their classmates knows as Kernnunos in a different aspect of the Woodland God. I have put a link to that with the entry on the main Characters page. The final installment of Chapter Twenty Four (To Artenhame) of Selkies' Skins is available to read for free. Kirsty and Morvan find themselves arriving at Artenhame with the school heads so that the Godtouched can do their business...and complete some of their live training. At Castle Carrick, the Mythological Society is quite a bit more than folktales!
In one to two weeks (depending on whether we get enough donations for an extra installment) the first part of Chapter Twenty Five (The Old Ones) will begin. If you're interested in getting on the pre-order list for the print version, or notification for when the entire book is available in ebook (instead of the webserial format) then please send an email request. Good news: The third installment for chapter 24 of Selkies' Skins can now be perused.
Bad news: My editor had a housefire. She's ok, family is ok, but she's lost almost all her clothes. I intend to visit tomorrow and see what all she needs, if anyone else needs anything and help out with what I can find for them. Without internet and phone that puts a crimp in things, and with this extra stress on her (which will impact her health) I'm expecting longer before she can go through what will be the print and ebook edition. I wouldn't have known till later, except my daughter went up to visit Faith and her family while she and her brother were over to that town to visit their father. Today is another update day for Selkies' Skins, and we spend it with Morvan and Imp. Chapter 24 part one takes us to discover a bit of why Morvan has it in for Kirsty.
Another character sheet is posted up in the character section. This time we meet Allison "Ally" McNamara. I also updated Kirsty's sheet a bit, as I realized that a couple details got left off.
Chapter 25 now has a name: The Old Ones and is up to four installments, with more coming for that chapter. It's almost Sunday, and Sunday means another installment of Selkies' Skins.
So what happened after breakfast turned out to be not-so-safe for our half selkie? Is a trip to the healer's wing in order? Have a read and find out. I also included a part of what was supposed to be in the last installment, which ended up getting moved to this installment for flow purposes. So, whose character sheet and concept blurbs should I put in the characters section next? I've gotten some positive feedback and heard that the extras are enjoyed. The next character background page to go up is Marsali's. To read more about Kirsty's ancestress (before she became a painting) follow the link.
The character pages are provided as extra information and a bit of fun. They will only go up as I get them finished, though may have additions from time to time. Links will go live on the main list of characters as their notes are made available. Happy birthday Dad. Sorry that daughter and I are too out of sorts to be trusted baking your cake like we'd planned to. |
